December Happenings
- Great Horned Owls are pairing this month. Listen for their soft calls after dark.
- Have you ever listened to a Junco's tew-tew-tew call? It sounds like they are talking in morse code to each other.
- Birds have formed small winter feeding flocks, they can learn each other's warning calls to stay safe.
- Goldfinches have changed over to their winter coats, they are drab for better camouflage and actually have more feathers to help them beat the cold winter months.
- December is a great time to join a Christmas Bird Count (CBC). This is put on by local Audubon groups and is the longest running community science bird project; over 120 years! Learn more and find a group to join at audubon.org.
